Mark Twain as we all know is one the greatest writers that ever lived.

But writing was just the tip of the iceberg.

He was like an interesting uncle who comes only a few times to your home but has the best stories to tell.

I love reading about people. And Mark Twain for me seemed to be that one uncle

So, here are 5 Facts you didn't know about the writer of your favourite novel, Mark Twain:

1. The Mystery of His Name

Many writers have other names that they go by. And so did mark Twain. But his original name is Samuel Langhorne Clemens.

And he came up with Mark Twain as his pseudonym after Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass, Sergeant Fathom, and, more plainly, Josh.

Mark Twain is a nautical slang word for measuring river depth of two fathoms (12 feet).

There is a well-known legend from the 19th century about this name. He would enter a pub and shout “mark twain!” The bartender would then take a piece of chalk and mark two spots on the wall for twain — two — drinks.
